BOTOX/Dermal Fillers

injectablesIf you are troubled by lines and wrinkles or the appearance of jowls, a non-surgical injectable such as BOTOX or a dermal filler can provide you with a more youthful look.

Dr. Ledding is an injector with an eye for aesthetics and detail. He has used injectable products with great success. Every patient is unique, however, so he will spend time with you during your initial consultation and examination to discuss your options and his recommendations for achieving the results you want.

What is the Difference Between BOTOX and Dermal Fillers?

BOTOX is an anti-aging treatment made of a purified protein that inhibits the muscle activity that causes certain types of wrinkles. It is primarily used on frown lines (the “11” lines between the eyebrows), crow’s feet, and some fine lines around the mouth.

Dermal fillers are used for a different type of wrinkle – the type caused by loss of volume. As we age, the youthful “plump” appearance of the skin begins to diminish. This causes wrinkles such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Dermal fillers restore the plump appearance by injecting biocompatible volumizers into the skin. There are several different products, and each works in a different way.

Dermal fillers can also provide an almost non-surgical facelift by providing volume around the cheeks or jowls, and they can be used to augment the lips non-surgically, making them fuller.

Who is a Good Candidate for BOTOX/Dermal Fillers?

male-cosmetic-proceduresMost people with signs of aging are good candidates for BOTOX or dermal fillers. However, if you have significant signs of aging, a facelift may be necessary to achieve your desired results. During your consultation, Dr. Ledding will advise whether BOTOX, dermal fillers, or both will improve your specific issues. These products can also be combined with surgeries to achieve complementary results.

If you are an adult patient of any age who wishes to have fuller lips, you may be a good candidate for dermal fillers.

Are BOTOX/Dermal Fillers an Outpatient Procedure?

Yes, both BOTOX and dermal filler injections are non-invasive and done on an outpatient basis without the need for incisions or downtime.

What Happens During BOTOX or Dermal Filler Treatment?

BOTOX and dermal fillers are injected using a very fine needle, and the treatment takes only a few minutes. We can apply a topical anesthetic before the injections, which requires approximately 20 minutes to take effect.

Dermal fillers also contain Lidocaine in their formula for an additional numbing effect. Most patients say that the needle is easily tolerated.

Dr. Ledding determines the best locations for your injections, as well as the proper dosage so that the results are natural-looking.

What Happens Immediately After BOTOX or Dermal Filler Injections?

We might apply ice to the injection sites for a few minutes, but you can leave immediately after BOTOX or dermal filler injections.

Are BOTOX and Dermal Filler Results Visible Immediately?

BOTOX and some dermal fillers take a few days to weeks before to show their final results, and some dermal fillers continue to provide improvement, as they stimulate your body’s natural production of collagen.

Are BOTOX and Dermal Fillers Permanent?

BOTOX and dermal filler injections provide temporary improvement. BOTOX lasts approximately four months. Dermal filler duration varies depending on the type of product, although some can last as long as two years.

What Post-Treatment Symptoms Can I Expect After BOTOX/Dermal Fillers?

Some patients experience minor bruising and swelling at the injection sites for a few days. These effects can be covered with makeup, if necessary.

A few dermal filler products cause temporary lumps at the injection sites. These will go away on their own, although we might instruct you to massage them to help disperse the filler formula.
